Appeal an exam result

You can lodge an appeal with us in specific circumstances.

New Zealand interns should contact the Pharmacy Council of New Zealand for information about the New Zealand appeal process.

Australian interns can lodge an appeal with us in specific circumstances. As detailed in the Appeals Policy, you can appeal an examination administration breach. We will only accept appeals from candidates within a specified timeframe.  Please consult the Appeals Policy for these timeframes.

Your examination result will not change as a result of the appeal process.

Appeal Process

We have a two-stage appeal process.

The APC Appeals Panel hears the first appeal.  If a further appeal is pursued, the Independent Appeals Committee (IAC) hears this second appeal.

The APC appeals process is detailed in the APC Appeals Policy and summarised below:

  • Lodge the written appeal, appeal fee and supporting documentation within the required timeframe
  • We will convene an APC Appeals Panel or Independent Appeals Committee
  • We will notify you of the outcome

Appeal outcomes vary on the individual circumstances.

Examination administration breach appeals

You can appeal to the APC Appeals Panel and/or the Independent Appeals Committee on the grounds of an examination administrative breach only. You cannot appeal the result of an examination.

Your examination result will not change as a result of the appeal process.

What is an administrative breach?

The following are examples of administrative breaches:

  • If your examination computer experienced a technical fault during the examination that resulted in lost examination time.
  • If the air conditioning at the examination venue fails and the temperature in the examination room rises to an unreasonable level.

You cannot appeal solely based on the grounds that you failed the examination.

At a minimum, if an appeal is upheld, the appeal fee will be refunded to you.

Examination re-mark

Your examination responses are marked by a computer and results are checked before publication on the APC website. If you wish to have your examination re-marked, you can request a re-mark. You will need to request a re-mark via email accompanied by the required fee within 28 days from the date your results are released.

We will manually mark your responses and inform you of the outcome via email.
