Pharmacists from the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada and USA no longer need to provide a first aid certificate as part of their Competency Stream eligibility application.
The Pharmacy Board of Australia (PharmBA) have removed this as a requirement. This now allows for a fairer and quicker application process for all candidates.
Though the certificate is no longer required to successfully complete an application with APC, pharmacists seeking general registration with PharmBA will still need the skills and knowledge in first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). We assess these skills in our CAOP (Competency Assessment of Overseas Pharmacists) Examination.
Once you are generally registered in Australia your scope of practice may require you to maintain current first aid and CPR certification. You will need to complete the necessary education and training as continuing professional development (CPD). The completion of CPD is an annual requirement of pharmacist registration in Australia.
For further information on the requirements, see Competency Stream eligibility.
