The Australian Pharmacy Council Board and staff were very saddened to hear of the passing of Steve Marty, who died earlier this week. Steve had given many years of service to the pharmacy profession in his role as Registrar of the Victorian Pharmacy Board (1989 – 2010) and from 2010 – 2015 as the inaugural Chair of the Pharmacy Board of Australia.
Steve was an active member of the Council of Pharmacy Regulatory Authorities (COPRA), the predecessor of APC, as well as the APC in the years leading up to National Registration. His wisdom, leadership and sound judgement was always valued around the Board table, and his commitment to high standards and service was an enormous asset to the profession and the public.
APC Chair Associate Professor Sue Kirsa reflected on Steve’s contribution to pharmacy regulation, “I first met Steve when I joined the Pharmacy Board in Victoria as a young pharmacist and he has been a friend, valued colleague and mentor throughout my professional career. Steve made a significant contribution to the pharmacy profession. Steve cared deeply for our profession, the patients we serve and his fellow pharmacists.”
The profession has lost a great leader and friend. The APC sends its sincere condolences to Steve’s wife Christine and his family in their loss.
