SAO Validity Change - FAQs

We are pleased to announce changes to the validity of the Skills Assessment Outcome (SAO). This change allows overseas-trained pharmacists (OTPs), who have successfully completed an exam and have been issued with an APC SAO, to apply for a renewal.

This provides more time to secure visas and internship opportunities, helping reduce time pressures and costs.

Key updates

• Renewal options are available for candidates who have previously been issued an SAO.
• This change is effective from 1 July 2026.
• SAOs issued for migration purposes will continue to remain valid for 3 years from the issue date.
• The Department of Home Affairs sets the validity period for SAOs for migration purposes.
• You can apply for an SAO renewal on the candidate portal.
• If you have successfully sat an exam, you are not required to re-sit the exam to renew.

How to request an SAO renewal

1. Login to your account on the candidate portal
2. Navigate to the "Skills Assessment Outcomes" page and select "Request Updated SAO"
3. Provide required documents
4. Pay the fee to submit

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to provide all my documents again?
You will not be required to submit all documents again. Depending on how long it has been since you first applied, we may request further information. You will be required to submit:

• Primary ID
• A current photo
• Evidence name change (if applicable)

Am I eligible to apply for a renewed SAO?
You can apply for a renewal as long as APC has previously issued you an SAO.

How long will it take to receive the renewed SAO?
We aim to process and respond to all applications within 5 working days upon receipt of all required documentation. However, please allow up to 4 weeks for any unforeseen circumstances.

How much does it cost to renew my SAO?
The application fee for a Skills Assessment Outcome is $300.

I have logged in to my account, but I don't see any button to request a renewed SAO, what do I do?
