The Australian Pharmacy Council (APC) has joined with Ahpra, National Boards and accreditation bodies in issuing a joint statement reaffirming a shared commitment to recognising and responding to family, domestic and sexual violence.

As an organisation responsible for setting standards for education and professional practice in Pharmacy, APC recognises the critical role accreditation plays in ensuring the health and education workforce is equipped to respond appropriately, safely and compassionately to those impacted by violence.

Through this joint statement, APC reaffirm their commitment to:

  • Strengthening professional capabilities;
  • Supporting education providers to embed relevant capability development;
  • Working towards a coordinated, cross-sector response to this national issue.

APC CEO, Bronwyn Clark reaffirmed APC's commitment to working collaboratively across the sector to support safer communities and improved outcomes for individuals experiencing family, domestic and sexual violence.

"As an accreditation body, we play a critical role in shaping a workforce that is equipped to respond to complex and sensitive issues. Pharmacists are often on the frontline of care and may be among the first professionals' individuals turn to for support. This joint statement reflects our shared commitment to ensuring graduates are prepared to recognise and respond to family, domestic and sexual violence with care, professionalism and compassion." Ms Clark stated
