The Pharmacy Board of Australia (the Board) has published the final Pharmacist Capability Framework for entry and re-entry to practice, developed by the Australian Pharmacy Council (APC), the independent national accreditation authority for pharmacy education and training.
The Framework describes the entry-to practice capabilities of a newly registered pharmacist and provides a contemporary and nationally consistent foundation for the future education and training of the profession.

The Pharmacy Board of Australia (the Board) engaged APC to develop the Pharmacist Capability Framework. This page outlines the consultation, governance and literature review that has underpinned the development of the final framework.
The Australian Pharmacy Council (APC) established 2 groups to guide the development of the Framework.
A project Governance Group was established to oversee the development of the Framework to ensure that the process exhibited transparency, consistency, responsiveness, equity, inclusiveness, accountability and effectiveness.

APC provided a range of opportunities for stakeholders, the public and the profession to provide input into the development of the Framework. Feedback and input from stakeholders was sought through:

APC conducted a number of consultations to gather stakeholder input from across the sector. The consultations undertaken were as follows:
Preliminary consultation with key stakeholders occurred from June until August 2025.
We held three face-to-face forums and one virtual forum in November 2025. These were attended by pharmacists, health professionals, consumers, and stakeholders. We presented the draft Framework and gathered feedback from attendees.
We offered written feedback submissions between November - December 2025 from those who could not attend face-to face forums.
