Associate Professor Faye McMillan has been awarded the Medal (AM) in the General Division of the Order of Australia for “significant service to Indigenous mental health, and to tertiary education”.

"I am truly blessed to be able to live the life that I have. However, I do not do this alone, I have the loving support of my family that I am grateful for, the love of my children. This has been possible because of the relationships with so many amazing human beings, organisations and communities that have been on this journey with me. Mandaang guwu," said A/Prof McMillan via LinkedIn.

The Australian Pharmacy Council (APC) Chair Associate Professor Sue Kirsa congratulated A/Prof McMillan for such an achievement.

"We are thrilled to see Faye's contribution to Indigenous health and education being recognised at such a prestigious level. It's an absolute privilege to work along side her on our APC Board. She wholeheartedly guides our work in pharmacy education and accreditation towards better health outcomes for First Nations peoples," A/Prof Sue Kirsa says.

Appointed to APC's Board in December 2019, A/Prof McMillan is APC's first Indigenous Director, and is founding member of the APC Indigenous Health Strategy Group.

A/Prof McMillan, a Wiradjuri yinaa (woman), was Australia’s first Indigenous registered pharmacist. She is currently Associate Professor in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health in the School of Population Health at the University of New South Wales (UNSW).

This year she was appointed as one of two Deputy National Rural Health Commissioners. Here she will play a vital role in the Federal Government's agenda to increase access to rural health services.

Faye received the 2019 NSW Aboriginal Woman of the Year award, and is a Senior Atlantic Fellow for Social Equity. She was a founding member of Indigenous Allied Health Australia (IAHA) and a board member for 9 years.
