Mental health and burn out issues are having lasting impacts on pharmacists and patient care. A particularly difficult year has recently seen many pharmacists overwhelmed and in need of support.

The Australian Pharmacy Council (APC) is honoured to become a member of the Pharmacists' Support Service (PSS), joining 8 other pharmacy bodies.

'More than ever before, pharmacists need a trusted source of advice and support for stress and mental health issues associated with pharmacy practice. The Pharmacists’ Support Service has been there to support pharmacists for many years, and the Australian Pharmacy Council is delighted to add our support to this important endeavour,' says APC Chair, Sue Kirsa.

Associate Professor Faye McMillan will represent APC. Faye's background and research in mental health and Indigenous health makes her a fitting addition to the PSS Board.

As the accreditation body for pharmacy education, we have a responsibility to promote positive well-being and stress management through education. Through this commitment we aim to reach all pharmacy students and interns to ensure they understand these impacts throughout their career and where to find support.

We not only show this commitment through our standards, but also through our events. Our Colloquium has a strong focus on burn out, resilience and preparing students to be work-ready. This event will take place 6 May 2021.
