The Australian Pharmacy Council (APC) is delighted to announce the launch of its new 5-year strategy, outlining a future-focused vision for pharmacy education and assessment in Australia. The strategy sets out four key themes that will guide our work through to 2030, with a strong emphasis on demonstrating our value to the profession, supporting workforce development, embedding cultural safety, and promoting organisational resilience.
This strategy builds on our important role within the National Registration and Accreditation Scheme, while responding to the evolving needs of the pharmacy profession. It reflects our deep focus on supporting pharmacists in achieving general registration and strengthening workforce capability, recognising the increasing complexity of healthcare, and the need for a future-ready pharmacy workforce.
'This strategy is about shaping a safe future for pharmacy in Australia through education and assessment,' said APC Chair, Professor Sarah Roberts-Thomson.
'It reflects our values, our responsibilities, and our ambition to lead with purpose and deliver meaningful outcomes for the profession and the people we serve,' Prof Roberts-Thomson concluded.
The four pillars of the 2025-2030 strategy are:
Empowering pharmacy within the National Registration and Accreditation Scheme
As the trusted provider to the Pharmacy Board of Australia and Ahpra, we will continue to uphold excellence in accreditation and regulation, ensuring the profession remains safe, capable, and responsive to community needs.
Advancing the pharmacy workforce
Beyond our regulatory role, we are committed to supporting the growth and evolution of the pharmacy profession. Through standards, accreditation, and assessment, we aim to have supported advanced practice models and strengthened workforce capability across the sector.
Driving a culturally safe pharmacy workforce for First Nations People
We remain deeply committed to eliminating racism and discrimination in healthcare. This strategy prioritises embedding Indigenous leadership and cultural safety in pharmacy education, ensuring First Nations people experience respectful and inclusive care from our pharmacist workforce.
Building an ethical, resilient and sustainable organisation
To deliver on our strategic goals, we will continue to invest in our people, systems, and processes. By 2030, we will have matured our organisational capability to deliver impact with integrity, agility, and sustainability.
